The Cloudflare Terraform provider used to be manually maintained. With the help of our existing OpenAPI code generation pipeline, we’re now automatically generating the provider for better endpoint and attribute coverage, faster updates when new products are announced and a new API documentation site to top it all off. During Developer Week 2024, we announced the revamped SDKs that are automatically generated using our OpenAPI schemas. Today, we’re taking a deeper look at how the pipeline works and share lessons we’ve learned along the way.

The update includes a new set of improvements such as streaming responses for chat and completions, improved TypeScript types, compatibility with ESM and more.

As a billing data platform, our web API is the primary surface area that technical folks interact with; compared to raw cURL commands, SDKs in your language of choice can lead to a much better developer experience, and make it quicker to get up and running. Our API is ever-evolving and handwritten SDKs could fall out-of-date (especially in languages we don’t use regularly in-house).
